To kick the new year off, I wanted to continue to highlight the movies from last year that made my honorable mentions list. While these movies weren’t the absolute ground breakers that my list from yesterday were, these movies either excelled at being fun or had a small flaw about them that kept them from … Continue reading 2017’S Film’s in Review: Honorable Mentions

2017’s Film’s in Review: Ethan’s Top 5 List
With 2017 coming to a wrap, I decided to come off a blogging hiatus in order to highlight the films this year that not only were prime examples of artists at the peak of their craft, but also that inspired me in my filmmaking and creative endeavors. There were actually quite a few films that … Continue reading 2017’s Film’s in Review: Ethan’s Top 5 List
Best Sequel in Ages? – Blade Runner 2049 Review
It’s very rare lately that I find it worthwhile to watch sequels, as they tend to recycle everything these days, from shots, to characters, to plot points. I’ve been bored by the last two Star Wars films, the most recent additions to the Aliens franchise, and I’ve completely given up on watching Marvel films within … Continue reading Best Sequel in Ages? – Blade Runner 2049 Review
Harvey Weinstein: The Left Can’t Have it Both Ways
An interesting parallel has been growing in my mind between what the American Left has been trained to demonize in their heads, and how they actually act on these impulses when their feet is held to the fire. A worrying trend has arisen where America’s liberal elite are all guilty of the same, if not … Continue reading Harvey Weinstein: The Left Can’t Have it Both Ways
All Female Reboots are Going to Kill Hollywood
A worrying trend I’ve noticed of late from the film and television industry is the appropriation of popular concepts but with an all female or more diverse cast. The most infamous example of this gender bending is in 2016’s Ghostbusters, which will probably go down as one of the worst social experiments of all time. … Continue reading All Female Reboots are Going to Kill Hollywood
Dunkirk Review: The Film Nolan Was Meant to Make
When I first read the reviews for Dunkirk, I thought it was odd that every outlet seemed to be saying the same few things about it. After seeing the film though, it makes sense why. This isn’t really a movie you can describe without sounding like a shell-shocked loon. Stumbling out of that theater my … Continue reading Dunkirk Review: The Film Nolan Was Meant to Make
Top 5 People I’d Rather See Play Batman
My hopes were raised before being immediately dashed today when I read rumors that Ben Affleck might be stepping down from playing the Caped Crusader after Justice League. These rumors were immediately rebutted by Ben Affleck himself at Comic Con, but to my surprise the internet wasn’t really satisfied by this. A cursory look … Continue reading Top 5 People I’d Rather See Play Batman
Summer Nights: Going to the Drive-In Theater
As a movie buff and a film student, I’m ashamed to admit that up to this point, I’ve never experienced the joy of going to a drive-in movie theater. I’ve always enjoyed the idea of a drive-in, bringing your own car, stocking up on snacks, and praying that the weather holds up enough to … Continue reading Summer Nights: Going to the Drive-In Theater
How Wonder Woman Reminds Us How “Super” a Superhero Film Can Be
Right off the bat I wanna say that I think this is one of the few movies in modern times that gets both female empowerment and tonal consistency right. While I could write a whole other blog about how I think this is a perfect example of a feminist film, my brief summary of what elevates this movie above others is that Wonder Woman is constructive, while other so called “feminist films” are destructive.
